The Power of Congregational Prayer

The benefits of performing congregational prayers (salat aljama’a) at home:
  • It increases the rewards (hasanat) of prayers; it is narrated that the rewards of praying as a group are much more than the rewards of praying alone
  • It makes the time of prayers a unique time that increases the connection with Allah
  • The du’as performed by a group have a greater chance of being accepted than individuals’ du’as
  • It brings all the members of the family together to have a special time
  • It encourages exchanging knowledge between the family members through the recitation of different verses of the Qur’an and du’as
  • It opens the way to beneficial Islamic discussions after finishing the prayers
  • It strengthens the relationships and love between the members of the family, through the love of Allah swt
  • It establishes a good model for the children and for society
  • It helps to maintain praying at the exact starting time of the prayer without a delay; it is narrated that the starting time of prayers is the best time for praying that brings so much rewards for the Muslims in this life and the hereafter
Now that you’re aware of the benefits of salat aljama’a, are you going to pray alone ever!

Notes:
– Congregation prayers at the masjd have more rewards than praying at home. But praying jama’a at home is better than praying as individuals
– The minimum number for salat aljama’a is 2, so there’s no excuse not to pray jama’a
– If they were 2 males or a male and a female then the male leads the salat. Yet if they were 2 females or more then one of them can lead the salat; it is not necessary that a male leads the salat in this case, and it is considered a proper jama’a prayer.
