Seeking closeness with Allah (swt) is honourable and holy. The Quran is holy because it is the book of Allah (swt). The month of Ramadan is holy as it is the month of Allah (swt). So, the human being becomes honourable when he worships Allah (swt).
Fasting gives us the opportunity to achieve a strong relationship with Allah (swt) and to take firm grasp of the strongest ring that never breaks (العروة الوثقى).
If the human being totally comprehended with Whom he is building a relationship by fasting, he would have exerted every possible effort for the sake of that relationship. If we want to build a relationship with any esteemed individual, we try to gain closeness in every possible way and we use all our energy and effort to learn what this person likes so we can do it for him and what the individual hates so we can abstain from it. If we do all this to gain closeness from an important person, how then will we strive to create a relationship with the king of kings? Will we make the same effort?
