وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا – 76:8
And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive
We are approaching the holy nights of Laylatul Qadr and the blessed final 10 nights of Ramadan, which is a valuable time to increase our good deeds. One of the most recommended acts in these nights is to give charity to those in need. We are also commemorating the anniversary of the martyrdom of our leader and inspiration Imam Ali ibn Abi Taleb, who was named “the father of orphans” because of his emphasis on feeding and helping the orphans for the sake of Allah (swt).
At Kalima Institute have launched a fundraising campaign “for His love” (عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ), to give you the opportunity to reap the rewards in these holy nights and contribute to helping those in need in the Muslim Ummah.
We will be raising money for the Al-Taawn Charity Society in Iraq, which does amazing work to change the lives of orphans in Iraq through various projects that focus not only on monetary support, but also on the personal development of orphans so that they will grow and feel like they are at no disadvantage compared with non-orphan children.
Members of the Kalima Institute team visited the organisation in Baghdad in January 2020, and saw first-hand the difference they were making in the lives of these beautiful, innocent children. Al-Taawn Charity in Baghdad consists of a school (Al-Jawadain School) for both orphan and non-orphan children so that they can socialise and receive the exact same treatment rather than being in segregated facilities. The orphan children stay after school hours to receive nutritious, home-cooked meals (designed by qualified dieticians), have their clothes washed for them, take a nap and do other activities before returning home for the night. They are currently sponsoring over 5000 orphan families and allowing them to live a normal and dignified life. They have a major focus not only on raising money, but providing lifelong skills to orphans and their families which they can use to provide for themselves rather than being fully dependent on charity organisations.
Some of the many great projects Al-Taawn Charity Society are working on are:
– Providing food baskets to needy families (especially during the COVID-19 pandemic)
– Paying rent for those who cannot afford it
– Providing medication for those with chronic illnesses such as cancer
– Buying Eid clothes for orphan children
– Providing widows with training, skills, and work so they can provide for themselves
– Self-funding projects such as a bakery to provide work for orphans, as well as providing bread for the school
– Providing farmland and training to enable needy families to grow their own crops
You can visit their website for more information or visit their Facebook Page.
Our goal is to raise $2,500 during these last nights of Ramadan for this charity.
